Artist Statement
I find renewal in the creative process, in the quiet
timelessness, there is a freedom from within that enables me to
acknowledge myself through my work. This time with myself is a safe
place, an escape from the needs of others, noise and general daily
craziness, where I can explore, renew, reconnect and strengthen myself.
I am captivated with the desire to catch a motion, a moment of movement
on paper. I am enchanted with the flickering and flashing movement of
shadows and lights as they dance over surfaces. I am continually
delighted in this dance of lights and shadows as they shift over, under
and through, on and off in a kaleidoscope of moving layers of textures
and patterns.
I have loved the challenging process of making prints on centuries old
lithographic limestone's. I have found drawing and working on stone to
be direct, spontaneous, and immediate. I layered light to dark
emphasizing the soft, warm, richness of the quiet velvety black shadows
in the hope that the light is highlighted in flickering contrast.
I have found in the past year of making Lithographs that each print is a
step. Sometimes a step forward, sometimes a step sideways and sometimes
a step back. Through this working process I have found satisfaction and
beauty. |
